A matched pair of silver belt clasps (paftale), executed in niello, with surfaces articulated through engraved ornament filled with black inlay. The contrast between polished silver and niello decoration creates a precise graphic effect characteristic of Russian silverwork of the period.
The form and technique place the pair within the broader tradition of ornamental dress accessories, where niello served both decorative and symbolic functions.
