Description
A pair of identical fruit baskets of elongated oval-hexagonal form, defined by a geometric structure and faceted planes characteristic of Art Deco design. The bodies are worked in hammered and chased silver, with surfaces articulated to enhance the angular composition and reflect light across the facets.
The restrained decoration and emphasis on form align with interwar German production, where geometry and surface treatment replace earlier historicist ornament.
The hallmarks confirm manufacture in 800 standard silver, with the maker’s mark “NH”. The stamped numbers differ between the two pieces (“33 / 472” and “37 / 485”), corresponding to model or catalogue references. A Romanian control mark (1926–1937) indicates later circulation and verification within Romania.
