Description
A rectangular jewellery casket with slightly tapering body and rounded corners, raised on a flat base and fitted with a hinged lid. The cover is decorated with an applied rose and leaves, secured with screw and washer, creating a discreet three-dimensional accent against the otherwise plain surfaces.
The object is executed through hammering and casting techniques, with an emphasis on form and proportion rather than extensive surface ornament. The lock is present, though the key is missing.
The hallmark indicates Viennese production in 1847, within the Austro-Hungarian system, with a fineness of 13 loth (approx. 812‰ silver), characteristic of mid-19th century Central European silver.
