Description
A rectangular casket of bombé form, with lobed sides and rounded corners, raised on rocaille feet. The hinged lid is surmounted by a sculptural finial in the form of a pumpkin with leaves, executed in ronde-bosse. The object is fitted with a key-operated lock (key missing).
The piece is worked in hammered and cast silver, with emphasis on volumetric modelling and plastic articulation, reflecting mid-19th-century Viennese production influenced by Rococo revival forms.
The hallmarks indicate Vienna assay in 1859, with the fineness expressed in loth (13 loth ≈ 812‰ silver). The maker’s stamp “FIK” remains unidentified. A Romanian control mark (1906–1926) attests to later circulation and verification within Romania.
