Description
A small evening purse composed of simple circular mesh links, forming a flexible body. The piece is fitted with two handles: one incorporating a clasp closure, the other likely executed in silver. The construction combines wire and linked elements, characteristic of late 19th- to early 20th-century chainmail purses.
The object reflects widespread European production of mesh purses, valued for their durability and adaptability, often used as compact accessories for evening wear.
The marks on the silver handle include “Bté S.G.D.G.” (Breveté Sans Garantie Du Gouvernement), indicating a French patent registration system in use until 1968, without state guarantee. The additional mark “GRENEI” remains unidentified.
