The Ettore Sottsass floor lamp, known as model ID-S, is a striking piece of design. This floor lamp is finished in a sleek black color, giving it a modern and elegant appearance. One of its notable features is the swivel filter cap, adding functionality and adjustability to its form.
Ettore Sottsass, the mind behind this design, was born in Innsbruck, Austria, but his career truly blossomed in Italy. Here, he wore many hats – designer, architect, and businessman. In 1981, he co-founded the groundbreaking Memphis Group, challenging the conventions of mainstream design and leaving an indelible mark on the world of design.
Throughout his career, Sottsass engaged in numerous collaborations with renowned design companies like Alessi, Olivetti, and Artemide. His innovative designs, such as the Elea 9003 calculator and the iconic Valentine typewriter from 1961, continue to be celebrated for their timeless and avant-garde appeal.
